So True

From (and, of course, the immortal Neil Diamond): “Money talks, but it don’t sing and dance and it don’t walk. As long as I can have you here with me, I’d much rather be, forever in blue jeans…”

Big Whoop

From “After perusing this morning’s report, one reader (a Mac user) was horrified to learn that Microsoft has no plans to port IE6 to platforms other than Windows. Not to worry: the standards support in IE6/Win is pretty much equivalent to what’s been in IE5/Mac since March, 2000. (Some would say IE5/Mac’s CSS support is still slightly better than that of IE6/Win.)”

So, my sore throat evolved into a nice little head cold, then crawled down my spine and made me completely lazy. Tabitha’s in roughly the same boat, although about one day ahead of me.

Which reminds me, Tabitha and I fight (playfully but) constantly about who gets to pay for what. “I’d like to pay for dinner.” “But I invited you to dinner.” “Well let me pay for gas.” “Then let me pay you for this…” etc.

My proposed solution? PayPal. The online payment service. Once we both establish accounts, one of us can pay the other for anything we feel like at any time. Imagine the horrifyingly complicated justifications we’d have to make to each other then. =-)

Tabitha says we’re not going to be doing this by the way. And, of course, I have to agree with her. But if you’re in the same boat, trying to be nice and pay for dinner but your significant other won’t let you. Just talk them into signing up with PayPal and pay for as much as you like.

Sore Throat

I have a sore throat. So I’m making decaf tea in one of my beautiful new glass mugs. (Thanks Tabitha!) Soon my achey throat will be basking in the warm glow of numbingly hot water. =-)

And, Sam was right, the soundtrack to Rudy is very inspirational. It’s on TNT right now.

San Frandiego

In short: it’s frickin’ cold in San Francisco, and it’s frickin’ hot in San Diego.

Watched a bunch of good movies curled up on the couch this weekend. What Lies Beneath was like every Hitchcock movie every made but better. The Cider House Rules was also quite good but wasn’t exactly what I was hoping for. And Mulan was one of the better Disney movies I’ve seen in recent years. (Pixar movies are not Disney movies.)

And I had a great time in San Francisco last week. Thanks to Rob and everyone at TMP:SF.

Overheard last week while hiking near the beach, a child said to his mother: “When we get back I’m gonna take off my feet … my shoes.”

I just like that. =-)

What else, what else… Posted my news about moving to San Francisco to the forums and added a new menu item to feature my adventures in the city.

At the moment I’m enjoying the freedom of wireless networking on Rob’s network while he’s introducing me to the humor of the “Dances With Wolves” DVD commentary track which (more than anything else) highlights the pompous attitude of Kevin Costner, constantly cutting off the other commentator. =-)

My New Chair

My new chair was waiting on my doorstep when I got home earlier. It’s not the Aeron I was drooling over but it was drastically cheaper and I love it. No more freaky passive spinal injuries for me! =-)

I imagine Rob will be the person most interested in this but it’s pretty interesting. You have to respect people who kick this much ass.

The Ant War

Ants have declared war on my room. Their axis of advancement covers the length of my room in two directions. They out number me, but I have the superior technology against which no ant can hold its ground. The vacuum. They may swarm my carpet, but they’ll never take my freedom.

That being said, what’s new with me… Went to my cousin’s wedding in Denver last weekend. I can’t remember the last time I’ve been to an extended-family event and felt more at ease. Maybe it was because the event wasn’t about me in any way or maybe because I could recoil into conversation with an immediate family member at any time. Who knows. I didn’t see much of Denver but I did get some good Denver-style bug bites.

What else, the new forums have gone live with only a few small bugs to iron out. (Whoops, just discovered another one.) I got a lot of cleaning done this week. Got some good weekend plans in the works. And I need to pay some bills! =-)
