For Unlawful Combatant Knowledge

An interesting look at what constitutes a prisoner of war and whether the captured alQueda and Taliban fighters qualify for such status under the Geneva Convention. It might be a one-sided view but it’s one of the more rational-sounding explanations I’ve read.

The latest reports suggest that it seems to be under consideration to treat them not as POWs but still accord them other Geneva Convention rights. Personally, I think I’m okay with that. The way the administration is trying to hold, prosecute and convict them all right now, in secret, without any oversight, is bullshit.

It does seem shady. The article examines why the administration is pushing for this though. The long term aspects of how they will be tried varies greatly on how they are classified now.
