Imageblogger

Imageblogger

I do all my blogging from the NetNewsWire Pro beta these days. When I switched over to NNW Pro and the MetaWeblog API, I made a bunch of improvements to the weblog from front to back. However, there’s one piece of my system that the new structure didn’t cover, the snazzy little image widgets I so often attach to the entries. The Blogizer used to handle this but I wasn’t using its other features anymore and I needed a fresh start.

Enter the Imageblogger. This app is pretty cool. On launch it gets your login information for your weblog CMS and your FTP server, then you select the blog entry you want to attach your image to, choose your image either by drag-and-drop or through an open panel, enter the alt tag text, toggle whether or not the image needs a border, click send, and you’re done. No muss, no fuss.

Pretty nice, but doesn’t that somewhat ruin something? I mean, before going over to NNW you used blogizer right? That app you could insert images aswell right?

Now you use Net Newswire AND imageblogger just to make a single entry which includes an image? :(

Me thinks Brian has a point. What I don’t understand is why you spent all of that time developing a happy custom tool for you to blog with, and then you went commercial…or did I not understand the bit about the blogizer correctly? Did you commercial because of all the RSS stuff you’ve been doing?

Brian, look at it this way, the Blogizer took a lot of time to develop and in my experience the more you develop a piece of software the more it needs to be developed. Either because bugs need fixing, you think up some cool new feature, or because you realize your coding skills have grown and big chunks of code need to be rewritten. I just don’t have the interest in developing the Blogizer any further, I want to try other things. NNW makes it easy, painfully easy, to post to my weblog and I just needed a simple app to facilitate the image stuff.

Jessyca, I hope that explained your question as well. As for the commerciality of NNW, I’m going to buy the Pro version not only because it’s got a blogging mechanism but because it’s a kick-ass news aggregator as well. It’s a great tool. I live in that software (among others).

Walt - Have you switched to Movable Type or something? I didn’t think NNW was compatible with php/mysql homebrewski CMS thingys?

Walt Dickinson

NNW works with any weblogs which support the MetaWeblog, Blogger, or Blosxom APIs. So I just added the MetaWeblog API to my XML-RPC server. I can blog to iWalt from any blogging app which supports the MW API.
