iLife ‘04
It took seven minutes out of my commute to buy iLife ‘04 on the way into work this morning. I think I was the sixth person to buy a copy from the CompUSA in San Francisco. The guy in front of me in line? Also buying a copy.
[One weekend later: GarageBand is a lot of fun. I’m not a musician but I think everyone, musician or otherwise, should get their hands on this and goof around with it for 20 minutes. I’ll probably pick away at it slowly for a while, try to find a MIDI keyboard to hook into it, make a couple really cheesy tracks. I’m happy with the improvements made to iPhoto but I wish they’d gone a lot further considering it only gets updated once a year. I dumped my whole Powershot library into it though and I’m working on resurrecting my Mavica library. So far, pretty good.]
I also received my copy today. GarageBand looks like fun, although I had some technical problems with recording audio initially. They seemed to sort themselves out, but I’ll have to see if they come back.
I know iPhoto has some new features, but I’m not noticing that it’s much faster. Maybe it’s just my machines. I do like the new sorting/sharing/etc… abilities.
I’m thrilled about the new 2-hour limit from iDVD. Saves me from having to use FCP under most circumstances.

I guess we’re many that would highly appreciate it, if you tell us more about GarageBand - that is, when you had time to check it out, of course.

I haven’t really had any time yet. I’ve been out of town and getting sicker by the day. I have, however, imported my 1500+ photo library into iPhoto 4 and am liking it although it’s still nowhere near as cool as iTunes in terms of management and sorting features. More about that later. =-)

Re: Garageband — I’m reserving judgement until I can record my own tracks and see how that works out. The loops are fun but get old pretty quick.

scott, we should use this opportunity to create a trans-national band. like photoshop tennis with music.

I was totally thinking the same thing.

The drum tracks in GarageBand are kinda lame. But I wanted to buy one of those electronic drum pad things anyway, so…

i can’t even get it to work. my CPU usage jumps up to 75% when i try to play anything back. ridiculous.

Doh…that sucks.

… and now it works. seems voodoo has a lot to do with it.

Nick, have you tried recording yourself on it? My iBook doesn’t have a 1/8” input jack so I don’t think I can use that Monster cable adapter thing, I guess I have to buy a USB music input thing.

i have a standard stereo input which isn’t great for plugging in a guitar, but works. i also have a mixer that i can use which helps pre-amp the guitar, but haven’t tried it. i also have an iMic to use, but in the GarageBand threads people are having problems with them.
this entry links to the thing i recorded, using the first method.
