Whine and Ye Shall Receive

Detached info views in iCal.

iCal 1.5.2 came out on Monday and includes a number of new features. Most notably (and surprising) to me, Apple has vastly improved iCal’s Info inspector. I went off on a bit of a rant when they started using the drawer back in October. My main gripe was that the window couldn’t be maximized properly since the drawer wasn’t factored into the width. Moreover, revealing the drawer on an already maximized window would cause it to be displayed off the screen. Both of these problems and more are fixed in the new version.

First, the green button does what you’d expect. If you’ve got a non-maximized window with the Info drawer revealed, the green maximize button takes the drawer into account and makes the iCal window the proper width. Second, revealing the drawer does what you’d expect. If you’ve got a maximized window and you reveal the Info drawer, the iCal window resizes so both are visible. Third, (surprisingly) if you still loathe the drawer you can tell it where to stick it and switch back to the floater from iCal’s earlier days. (See the screenshot above.) Of course, the new floater gets all the latest kick-ass form widgetry.

In summary, Apple is clearly listening to their customers. And by “customers,” I mean me. =-) I command them to make me a sandwich and whip up some kind of one-button iPod ejector doohickey. I hate having to go into iTunes or eject it from the desktop whenever I want to unhook it. Why can’t I push a button on the iPod when I’m ready to remove it from it’s dock? Something to think about.

[While we’re on the subject of Apple’s amazingishness: Customizable iTunes Music Store syndication feeds. Sweet.]

I’m sorry but if Apple Computer was so darn smart they would have sent a headhunter after you some time ago with an offer you couldn’d refuse (that’s a true story).

Thanks! =-) I’m having visions of waking up in bed and letting out a blood-curdling scream upon the discovery of the severed top of my iPod under the covers. =-)

(A la The Godfather for the minority of you who are no doubt wondering what the hell I’m talking about. “I’m gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse.” Nothing?)
